Simply, Amazon provides merchants with the ability to sell their products through the Amazon.com’s ecommerce web site. However, in order to integrate successfully with Amazon, the Amazon.com API defines a specific set of feeds each merchant is required to submit to, and receive from, Amazon. Some of the Feeds are transactional in nature while others are batch-oriented and loaded on a periodic basis. The Amazon API requires submitted Feeds conform to a strictly defined process. The process dictates many things, such as the order in which the Feeds can be submitted, the size of each Feed that is allowed, the file formats and compression that is required, and the time interval for submission of Feeds.
The required information for the Amazon.com Feeds include items available within the merchant’s e-commerce application, such as product name and pricing, as well as data that is specific to Amazon.com, called Enrichment data. Examples of Enrichment are the specific taxonomy merchants map to for the category of products sold and the “Keywords” included to make their products accessible on the site.</p>
<p>To classify products, Amazon defines product categories as “Stores.” The purpose of Stores is to make it easier for potential customers to locate and purchase the items from the retailer that are of interest to them. Amazon Stores vary from Apparel to Gourmet Foods to Sporting Goods.
Solutions for Amazon Supported Feeds</p>
<p>The headaches involved with seamlessly interoperating with Amazon.com's API and keeping current with the new capabilities being developed by Amazon.com are neatly resolved by using standardized e-Commerce integration solutions. </p>
<p>For example, LINC for Amazon.com from Bostech Corp eliminates the complexity of dealing with an unknown, sparsely documented, fast-moving system.
Snowshack.com was looking for a seamless solution to integrate their original product store of ski, snowboards and snowsports accessories with Amazon. Snowshack.com selected LINC for Amazon.com to automate the pull of product information from their existing table-driven store over http and supplement it with additional information required by Amazon feeds. LINC for Amazon.com also coordinates current inventory over ftp and order information by email between Snowshack.com’s remote warehouse and Amazon. More than a year after go-live, Snowshack.com pulls thousands of orders annually through this automated venue.
The following lists the Amazon Feeds by category, which any merchant must comply with to deliver to the Amazon.com API.</p>
<p>Merchant Setup
These are manually-defined settings which are configured by the merchant in Seller Central. They determine business rules and provide content to establish the Merchant on the Amazon.com platform.
Merchant Profile
Merchant Help Pages
Storefront Layout, Images, and Content
Shipping Tables<br />
Tax Rules
Product Setup and Maintenance</p>
<p>Amazon.com's approach to uniquely identifying products and collecting the information required to merchandise them.
Product Feed
Image Feed
Price Feed
Inventory Feed
Relationship Feed
Order Management</p>
<p>Provides the info required to fulfill orders placed via Amazon.com, accept or reject the orders, and ship the orders.
Order Feed
Order Acknowledgement Feed
Order Fulfillment Feed
Adjustments and Settlement
Adjustment Feed addresses returns, out-of-stock conditions, price discrepancies, rebates, refunds, and the like. Settlement Feeds detail all financial transactions between Amazon.com and the Merchant and reconciles this information with your application(s).

Choosing an Amazon.com e-Commerce Integration Partner
When choosing an Amazon.com integration partner, merchants should look for a vendor that can:</p>
<p>Simplify the integration. Ideally, the solution should automate the integration from retail systems to the Amazon Platform, eliminating the need for complex technical discussions, keeping the focus on the business value offered by Amazon Services, where it should be.
Accelerate time to market. A good partner will enable rapid e-commerce integration to the Amazon Platform, bringing the merchant from signing to go-live in days instead of months.
Obtain affordable integration. Ask if the vendor can offer a hosted or installed software option to suit a merchant’s needs, making the capability to integrate with Amazon available to all merchants, regardless of size, at a consistently affordable price-point.
Finally, make sure the vendor is a Certified Systems Integrator of Amazon Services, to ensure that the partner has proven its e-commerce integration services.

Ecommerce is a popular business and an ever growing business model for entrepreneurs ranging from stay at home parents, new graduates and those nearing retirement. Selling while you sleep is a common slogan with much appeal to anyone who has worked a 40 hour plus work week for any amount of time. Once you decide an online store is the perfect business for you then it is time to find the perfect ecommerce software; commonly called shopping cart software. Here are some items to check before making any purchase on your shopping cart software.
In-house or Hosted
One of the first things you want to determine is if you want your online store hosted by a third party or on its own dedicated server. Usually a hosted solution will be cheaper in the beginning but the cost can rise dramatically as your business grows. The downside to a hosted solution is you usually do not have as much control or flexibility on store settings and server settings. While some hosted or managed ecommerce software allows you to have a dedicated server; most do not without an expensive “enterprise” plan which is often too expensive for a new store owner. Of course there are always exceptions so if you want a dedicated server with hosted shopping cart software you will need to do your research. On the other hand a dedicated server for your online store will usually give you the greatest flexibility along with an advantage in terms of SEO when it is time to promote your ecommerce store. It is best to move to a dedicated server as soon as it is fiscally possible for both control and marketing.
Customization
Most shopping cart software will allow you to customize most settings to your liking but how easy it is will vary with each software option. It is worth mentioning that you likely will have the most flexibility with shopping cart software you install on your dedicated server. The web host you use for your online store may offer some ecommerce software to be installed easily or installed for free upon purchase of a hosting plan. One big area to check about on customization is the checkout process pages. Many hosted solutions will give you limited control over pages for the checkout process. This is one of the most important areas to customize so if you cannot edit your cart & checkout pages you may want to consider another option.
Ease of Use
Next you want to make sure that the process for customizing your online store is easy to do. This is especially important if you are not technical or have limited experience with HTML and other web languages. Many shopping cart solutions will allow you to change the look and feel, add products, add categories and other content through an easy to use content management interface. These are great for non technical people who need to be able to customize the store without knowledge of HTML. Another important factor is the ability to import and export data such as products or categories. This will allow you to make bulk edits easily. It is common when you first add products or categories to use an import option to minimize the amount of time it takes to fill the store with products. This is also important if you want to migrate to a new web host, server or different shopping cart software.
QuickBooks Integration
Accounting is often near the bottom of the list for new business owners but can be one of the biggest challenges without proper planning. QuickBooks is the leading accounting software used by small businesses including online store owners. If you plan on using QuickBooks or any other accounting software I highly recommend making sure you can integrate it with your shopping cart software. This will help eliminate duplicate work along with saving hours of time. You will likely have customer orders, invoices and purchase orders to track. Accounting software will make this much easier to accomplish.
There are many more features that ecommerce software companies will tout as being the best thing ever but ease of use, integration and customization are the most important when starting out. You should make a list of features you eventually want your store to offer and then group the features into three buckets: must have, like to have and bonus features. This will help you pick the perfect shopping cart software for your upcoming online store.

Marketing products and services through the Internet is unquestionably easier and more rewarding compared to traditional marketing methods. With the millions of people worldwide getting online each day, there’s an enormous possibility for a merchant to sell his products and generate huge income.
However, merchandisers are not the only ones who can benefit from online marketing. A booming industry nowadays, provides great opportunity as well to individuals as affiliate marketers. In affiliate marketing, an affiliate marketer doesn't need to have his own products and services to sell. All he needs to do is to refer people to the merchant’s business site for them to buy the products and thereby, earn a commission.
The key to an affiliate marketer’s success is to choose a good affiliate program and to employ excellent marketing techniques in promoting or selling the products to consumers. Why good and not the best affiliate program? There is no “best affiliate marketing program,” as one program might make one affiliate marketer a millionaire and the other a frustrated marketer. In other words, it can be a success to one and a failure to another. But there certainly is a good affiliate marketing program to start with. How to make it best would now depend on you.
But before you think how you are going to make it best and financially rewarding, first think about how you are going to land on a good affiliate program with the thousands of affiliate marketing opportunities abounding in the Internet today. Try to look into the following tips and suggestions on how to best select the affiliate program that’s right for you.
Information, that’s you need in order to make the right choice. It is helpful when you have already focused your search to a specific interest, which may be the theme of your website (if you already have one). In this way, you would be able to direct yourself towards a program that really matches your needs, wants and resources. It would be easier for you to eliminate options that are not suited to your own criteria for a good affiliate marketing program. You can join affiliate forums and learn some tips and get suggestions from experienced affiliate marketers. However, be wise enough to weigh their ideas before you buy them.
<br />
The Internet Affiliate marketing program networks are good places to look for choices. Here, merchants and affiliate marketers like you meet. The merchants advertise their affiliate programs to interested affiliates who sign up in the network for free. Third party affiliate program networks are helpful since they provide you with access to a large number of advertisers (merchandisers) simultaneously. You can easily track and compare their sales records, performances, benefits, products and services.
So now you have choices, the next question is which among those options is the right one. Here are some things to consider in deciding which to take and which to reject. First is the quality of the products and services. As an affiliate marketer your goal is not only to make visitors of your site click the link to the business site; but more importantly, to promote the product so they would buy it. If the customers are not convinced upon going to the business site, then you don’t earn. Make sure the products you are endorsing are worthwhile or in the business context, saleable. Ask yourself: if I were the customer, would I buy it? Would I recommend it to my family or good friend? If you can’t convince yourself or your family and friends to buy it, take a look at your next option.
<br />
Another is the affiliate program or the merchandiser’s history. Look into their previous and present sales data, their proven and tested affiliate marketing systems and their partners’ experiences with them. Although, success of the program really depends on you, this one is still very important. The sales records don't only show how good the affiliates are, but they speak about the products’ reliability, market availability and the company or the merchandisers’ reputation as well. Moreover, look into and carefully study the company’s compensation plan. Your purpose for joining the program is to earn, so make sure you’ll be paid for all your efforts fairly.
If you do not have much time to promote intensively the affiliate products by creating banners, graphics and articles, choose affiliate programs that help you create these for your web site. It would be great if the company provides training on how to effectively market products online. Remember that affiliate marketing is a partnership, so make sure your partner is able to support you as you help him promote his products and services.
Take down all the advantages and disadvantages of each program you are considering so you can clearly see the difference among your options; then later, compare the advantages of the programs with your own checklist. Take time to gather all the info you need to choose the right program. Remember an informed choice is the best choice.

You can use free affiliate programs to earn money from your web-traffic.
If you have a website with some traffic, you can make money by having links to merchants' online shops on your site. If someone goes through your links into the shop of the merchant, and buys something, you earn commission from the sale, between 5% and 40% depending on type of merchant. Some merchants also pay for each click or each lead. A lead is a new visitor to the shop that asks for more information or prize offers.
People or companies having these links on their web-sites, are called affiliates, and the links are called affiliate links. The administrative infrastructure by the merchant that the affiliate registers into, in order to get the linking code, is called an affiliate program.
Often there is a variety of link types choose from, offered by the merchant. The simplest type is just an URL with an affiliate code and a product code as parameters. This can be used bare, or combined with an anchor text and formatting you make yourself. Another simple variant is a ready made anchor text with a link offered by the merchant.
A more complicated variant is a banner or an anchor text dynamically uploaded from the merchant’s site. This allows the merchant to change the anchor text and the banner when he wishes to do so. A still more sophisticated variant is a dynamically uploaded quarter page sized, half page sized or a full page sized add copy with links.
To register into an affiliate program is usually free, and through the program you get freely all you need to make the linking code, to monitor the traffic through your links, and to see what commission you have earned.
An affiliate program is not a MLM program, since the affiliates only earn from sales, leads or clicks. However, in many programs you can recruit other affiliates and earn some commission from the sales made by the recruited affiliates too. The portion of the sale revenues generated by recruited affiliates, that you can earn as a commission varies between 5% and 20%. In most affiliate programs you will only earn from to levels - your own sales and sales generated by affiliates directly recruited by you. Some programs have a 3-tire commission structure.
There are also common networks operated by third-part companies where several merchants use a common software and administrative infrastructure to recruit affiliates and monitor the traffic from affiliates. These are called affiliate networks. Both the merchants and potential affiliates register into the network, and the affiliates can find links to the online shops of hundreds of merchants to use at their web-site. Examples of affiliate networks are Commission Junction, LinkConnector and Linkshare.
From my experience, the best affiliate programs are for merchants selling alternative health items or items for erotic improvements. I also have good experience with programs in the fields skincare, cosmetics and hobby. However, it is important that the products sold through the affiliate program have one or more of these properties: They have especially high quality. They are sold for a more affordable prize than from local shops. They are unique so that similar products are only found through the internet shop. They are not found locally in many customers geographical area.
What will work best for you, will however depend upon the kind of traffic you have, and the interests of people visiting your site.
