Is The Color Black On The Ski Slopes Cool Or Tacky?
You deserve a pat on the back if you have decided that you like your brain enough to protect it with a ski helmet. It was not easy to decide which one to get, was it? Most people spend a long time comparing helmets before they decide on which one to buy.
If you are the practical type, price and quality were your first priority. There are safety standards that apply to all protective headgear, but even so, they all have different features. You had to balance quality with price and that is never easy.
You probably spent even more time agonizing over the look of your helmet than you did over its effectiveness. The aerodynamic features were only one of your considerations. In fact, the wind sheer factor probably took a distant second place to the cool look of an aerodynamically designed helmet.
Finally, you had to make an important color decision. They come in so many colors, that would not have been an easy decision to make. Obviously, color has nothing to do with practicality, but that did not prevent you from spending an inordinate amount of time choosing your color!
Strange thoughts probably came into your head regarding color. Would a red one be too radical looking? Would a steel grey one stand out enough? Would it go with the rest of your ski outfit? You probably even wondered if it would clash with your black sport watch or if that even mattered.
You were really attracted to the black helmet, but maybe spent hours before making your decision. Black is the color of Darth Vader, you thought. Black is the color Goths choose. Black doesn’t suit your personality, but that helmet looks so cool! What to do?
No worries! That black one is not going to make people think you’re a Goth or a Star Wars geek. Just avoid wearing all black and you will be okay. If you have a white or colored ski parka and pants, they will stand out more than your helmet. You can safely wear black boots with your helmet, too. Just don’t wear all black.
Black can be either cool or tacky depending on how you use it. As a rule of thumb, wearing all of any color from head to foot is usually tacky. One exception to that rule might be white, but wearing all white on the ski slopes has its disadvantages. For one thing, people might mistake you for a Ninja assassin. For another, if you get lost or have an accident, nobody will be able to see you. Wear something that contrasts with the color of the snow.
