The LG Optimus GT540 - Information & Advice

LG tested the Android operating system waters with the LG GW620. Criticized by some for entering the game relatively late, they have rectified the situation by producing a quality successor to the GW620. Known to retailers as the LG GT540, it is more popularly known as the Optimus. Keeping development costs down by remaining true to the operations of the 620, LG has presented a user friendly, mid-priced smartphone in the Optimus. A QWERTY keyboard is just one of the features that add value to the Optimus that some of LG’s earlier models did not possess. Some models of smartphones may be slightly smaller, but the Optimus can be easily placed in pocket with dimensions of 109 x 54.5 x 12.7mm. It is not heavy at all, owing to its lightweight, high quality plastic shell. Smoothly contoured edges bestow an attractive appearance upon the handset. A 3-inch resistive touch screen dominates the front of the LG Optimus. Early reports are that although not a capacitive touch screen, it is still quite accurate, leading to far fewer mistakes than one might expect. It maintains HVGA resolution and the TFT display provides more than adequate image quality for a phone that falls in the mid-price range. Images are presented at a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels with 256K colors. Two types of home screens provide variety to the Optimus. One screen is the familiar, staid version seen on other Android-powered device and the other is an LG customized version. The customized home screen can be adapted to feature buttons on the bottom of the screen that allow messaging access at any time. Widgets, folders, and shortcuts can also be placed on this screen. In addition to being able to create anywhere from three to seven home screens, themes can be completely changed on all of them. Battery life is greatly improved on the Optimus from previous LG smartphone models. A 1500mAh lithium-ion battery has been rated at 500 hours of life on standby and has been shown to provide up to 7 hours and 20 minutes of talk time. This is almost unheard of when it comes to smartphones. Of course, the LG Optimus comes packed with miscellaneous features that will please the user who is looking to enhance the smartphone experience. On the Optimus you will find an alarm clock, world clock, voice recorder, personal organizer, a dedicated Youtube plug-in, a PDF viewer, and scads of other handy applications. An entry-level Android phone, the LG Optimus affords ease of use that will not overwhelm new users. These customers will like the ease of use, while the experienced user will find the familiarity useful.
