Donald Miller’s Blue Like Jazz

Being an avid fan of books, I decided to finally give into the numerous suggestions of my friends and read ’s .

If you want a fresh take on Christian spirituality, then is a great read..

One of Miller’s biggest strengths is found in the style of his writing. Departing from the more traditional Christian book genre, Miller chooses to parlay his thoughts through a mixture of personal reflection and Biblical truths.

I felt like I was talking to a friend who was sharing stories of one’s youth and the trial and error methods that shaped who they became..

Miller’s humorous writing style truly makes this book enjoyable.. Miller also takes shots at himself rather than seem like a know-it-all..

Turn to page 152 for one of the best lines. He admits his own shortcomings when he says “I am something of a recluse by nature. I am that cordless screwdriver that has to charge for twenty hours to earn ten minutes use.”

When I first read that, I couldn’t help but burst out into laughter because I myself have felt that way at times.

Some of his critics feel that Miller strays from Christianity in this book..

But these people are missing the point of this book.. Most of these people are probably used to the more traditional Christian books..

But readers will see that Miller knows the need for God in one’s life..

I promise that if you read this book, you will find Miller’s journey somewhat relatable to your life. While many authors take the safe road in writing, Miller takes no prisoners and goes full throttle into all of the things we think, but probably never mention.

If you are looking for a new reading experience, pick up Donald Miller Blue Like Jazz. While he may not be the deepest writer, his works are definitely relatable.
