A Genuine Home Business Opportunity - How Would You Know?

When it comes to picking a a certain amount of caution is recommended. The virtual world of online business has opened a gateway to a whole variety of scams.

So, how do you determine the legitimacy of an online business?

Well, one obvious question to ask is how long has the business been around? A typical scam is rarely active for more than a few months and will have in its short period of existence already have received a deal of negativity on forums etc.

If an opportunity promises you riches without you having to do anything then definitely stay clear of it. There is no such thing as money for nothing!

You wouldn’t expect to run a business offline and do no work so don’t think that it’s realistic on the Internet.

Although, I admit there are some opportunities where signing up during the initial phases will bring some rewards, very few people have the contacts or insiders knowledge to get in early enough to make any money. And anyway, these opportunities typically suffer from attrition and eventually fold because even the founding members are no longer promoting and have moved on to the next great opportunity. If you are considering an opportunity like this then make sure the product has mass appeal and a long term future.

Any scheme (can’t be classed as a business) built on a matrix system with no real product is just a quick way for the owners and their friends to make some money. Stay clear! All the legitimate payment processors do!

If you don’t recognise the payment processor be very careful. The best payment systems do full background checks on potential customers. Better safe than sorry when it comes to your own money!

Ensure the payment plan meets your requirements and the terms of payment are fair. A lot of scams will expect money up front, lead you to believe they are genuine by paying you once or twice, but then make it extremely difficult for you to get paid in the future after you’ve commited.

You should be able to find out a little bit of history regarding the company founders. Find out what they have done before and what others are saying about them.

A top notch will provide first class training. You should have access to all the tools you need to run your business and both online and telephone support should be provided. Ensure the address they provide is real and not some virtual office in cyber space!

Of course, there are many good businesses on the Internet but not all of them will be right for you. Just keep to the guidelines and follow your instincts to make the right choice.

Be aware that new opportunities, particularly those with a downline, and many others that provide a free entry level can attract what the industry terms ‘tyre kickers’. Those that sign up but never work the business or even attempt to promote it. If you are trying to build your business this can be extremely frustrating. Some businesses have got wise to the negative impact this has on other members and have introduced processes to eliminate time wasters. If you can find out enough about a business without a free entry level then consider this a good thing for long term success.

There you have it, some guidelines that I hope will help you choose a legitimate home based business opportunity without becoming a victim of online fraud!
