Where the iPhone Fails
The iPhone is one of the most popular mobile phones used today however, it is not without fault , here is a list of the 6 most annoying issues with Apples flagship phone.
Battery Life – The battery life on the Apple iPhone is really bad with users who have had a handset for around 6 months needing to charge a couple of times a day, even with very little use.
The Camera – The 3 megapixel camera is really not up to scratch and there is no form of flash or backlight so those wishing to take night photos or photos in limited light will be disappointed. Even the feature list on the camera is virtually non-existant.
No Support for Adobe Flash – Adobe Flash is used on more and more websites each day and provides rich graphics and animations in many websites, the current safari browser that comes with the iPhone will not support flash rendering many websites useless. Apple have released a statement saying they have no intention in building Adobe Flash into the iPhone now or in the future .
General Poor Call Quality – Many users report poor reception on the iPhone, when placed next to another phone on the same network the iPhone nearly always has a lower signal. Reports of call quality problems and calls dropping are also voiced frequently .
It’s a Sealed Unit – This means you can’t boost the memory or substitute the battery – if either of these fail you will need to buy a new phone or replace it under warranty if you are lucky enough for it to still be under maintenance .
Limited Service Providers – Whilst this is improving there are still many service providers who are unable to offer the Apple iPhone as part of your bundle, more competition usually means cheaper phone calls and better packages.

Introducing The Google Nexus S
December 2010 saw the release of the latest handset from Google, called the Nexus S. Whereas the previous Google branded handset, the Nexus One, was manufactured by HTC; the new S model is produced by the Korean manufacturer Samsung. Some critics have claimed that the Samsung Google Nexus S is just another model from the Samsung Galaxy range, though there are a number of features that make the Nexus S stand out from the crowd.
The Samsung Google Nexus S, to give it its full title, has a few tricks up its sleeve that sets it apart from all the other Android phones on the market today. The most important factor, aside from the neat design, is the fact that the Nexus S comes with the latest version of the popular Android operating system, version 2.3 or Gingerbread. To power this newest evolution of the Android OS is a super fast 1GHz Hummingbird central processing unit (CPU), and 512MB of random access memory (RAM).
Externally, what causes this handset to stand out from the crowd is the curvature that has been incorporated into the design. The glass screen has a minor concave curve which is supposed to help comfort during extended periods of call time. Other factors that make this phone particularly special are the Super AMOLED display which projects a resolution of 480 x 800 (or 235 ppi), an internal digital compass, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope.
It is fair to say that Google’s target, as with all smartphone manufacturers at the moment, is the Apple iPhone 4G. It is also fair to say that even with an updated OS, the Nexus S is still cowering in the shadow of the beastly 4G. From this collaboration we can see that Samsung have truly delivered a great piece of hardware combining a clever, individual, modern design with very capable internal specifications, but the other side of the partnership have not quite fulfilled their design brief. The Gingerbread software, although good, has just not made the leap that we were all hoping.
Ultimately the decision whether to splash money on Google’s newest handset is really down to your personal operating system tastes. Although the Gingerbread OS still has a few flaws, it is still a worthy contender against the iPhone 4G and quite easily the best Android phone available today.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 : The Basics Explained
If you are looking for an impressive and versatile smartphone for less than $250, Sony Ericsson’s newly released Xperia X8 could be the phone for you. It is modeled after the more expensive X10, but is much more straightforward and less costly. Weighing in at only 104 grams, the 3″ Android touchscreen device comes to life with 320 x 480 pixel resolution. WiFi, 3.5G support, GPS, and FM radio are welcomed features. To get started with multimedia capabilities, Sony Ericsson even includes a separate 2 GB card for its expandable microSD memory slot.
The Xperia X8 is arguably one of the most attractive Android phones on the market, with its main cosmetic downside being the plastic used on the back of the phone. It tends to cheapen the feel of the phone. Otherwise, it is designed as most Android phones, with the home, menu, and back keys located beneath the display. The top of the phone has the controls for power/lock functions, the 3.5mm audio connector, and the microUSB port; the left side is home to volume controls and the quick one-step camera function.
The battery life of the X8 is pretty respectable. You will be able to talk on a 3G network for up to 5 hours and 40 minutes. If you are using advanced apps, you will find that there is plenty of processor speed available, thanks to the 600MHz processor and 128MB of RAM. This should be enough firepower to tackle almost any request, though it does not match the blazing speed of the best Android phones.
The interface for the 3.2 megapixel camera on the back of the phone is simple and easy to understand, even the video camera. While flash or auto focus would have been nice features if included, the quality of the pictures and videos are well above par, especially when transferred to a computer.
Anyone who rushed out to purchase the X8 will be running the Android 1.6 operating system. However, subsequent productions of the smartphone will yield Android 2.1. (Anyone running the older version will be able to upgrade once available.) Of course, users will be able to customize the device with their choice of apps from the Android Market.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 has a very modern, stylish look that manages to be small yet remain fully functional. For the right market demographic, it provides all the services you could want. So who is the right market demographic? The phone is clearly designed to be affordable, and unfortunately, it seems Sony met this goal by going with reduced internet browsing ability. If you want a reliable phone at a good price and do not plan on doing much internet browsing, then this is a good choice.

Are you interested in mobile phone recycling? Everyone of us has an old mobile phone or two lying around somewhere, sure to never be used again. Many people trade their old phones in for more advanced handsets or simply purchase a new mobile phone on a whim all the time. The problem is their old mobiles. What could they do to prevent hoarding these old phones that they’re never likely to use again.
Thankfully, there is a solution; many companies that specialise in mobile phone recycling have recently sprouted up online who will even pay you cash for your old phone. Why would you choose to store your old phones when you could make some money from them?
Why Recycle your Old Mobile Phone
There are many reasons, other than money, to encourage mobile phone recycling. New mobile phone sales have soared over the last decade as billions of people either upgrade their old mobiles or purchased new ones.
When an individual gets a new mobile phone they end up either hoarding or discarding their old ones. Envisage the billions of old mobile phones, which are no longer in use, either collecting dust at the back of a drawer or getting dumped at public waste sites. No longer are any of these really an option, knowing that you can now earn a bit of money from your old mobile phones.
The Best Place to Sell your Old Mobile Phone
The newer your phone the more money a mobile phone recycler will pay you for it. Usually, mobile phone recycling companies will usually sell your old phones to emerging markets or recycle them for their parts to repair others.
Some would say you would be better served to sell your phone yourself and keep more of the profit. Whilst this option looks very good, you must realise that there is no guarantee that it will sell.
What Company to use to Recycle
If you look around, you’ll notice many online mobile recycling sites that will pay you for your old mobile phones. Whilst they all offer some money, some of these companies may also offer vouchers or a combination of the two. Prior to searching for and comparing all the deals out there you may first want to realise your needs.
If a voucher from one of these partner companies will be of use to you then perhaps getting vouchers instead of cash is not a bad option for you as generally speaking you should get better value for your mobile this way. Should you not need to buy from one of these retailers then it’s probably a better idea to look for the company that will give you the most money for your old mobile phone.
What to do to Recycle your Old Mobile Phone
As soon as you have found the best offer for your old mobile phone you will be asked to fill out a form; providing the recycler with some information about the phone as well as yourself. Most companies will then send you post free packaging in which you can use to send your mobile phone to them. It’s important to point out that unless you opt for ’sign for’ delivery your phone will not be insured and the company concerned will not compensate you for it should it go missing in the post.
After a short while, you should receive your payment. Should your phone be dead on arrival or is in worse shape than you represented online, they may contact your to offer you a lower price. It is also important that you remove all pin or security passwords and ensure that you send them your phone fully charged and switched off.
If you have a box of mobile phones sitting around not being used, mobile phone recycling may be a profitable option for you. Not only will it help you to free up some space but you will also be able to enjoy a bit of extra cash too!

Recycling Companies Refuse To Buy Stolen Mobile Phones
To curb the stolen phone resale market and prevent criminals from making money from stolen goods, many recycling companies are now agreeing to check the details of mobile phones against a national stolen phone database before purchasing them from individuals.
This new code of practice, which was developed by the Telecommunications Fraud Forum (TUFF), government and police, has already been signed by around 90 per cent of the UK recycling industry, and it aims to curb the estimated 100,000 stolen phones that are sold on to recycling companies.
Stolen handsets can still be used abroad, despite the fact that they will have been blocked across all UK networks within a 24 hour period after having been reported as stolen. Some phones are exported after purchase by recycling companies, which allows criminals to make some money out of the goods.
Each recycling company that decides to sign the new agreement will then check every mobile that they are sold against the National Mobile Phone Register. If the phone ends up being stolen, they will refuse to buy it and hand over the information to police.
When it comes to preventing criminal activity, the recycling industry has always been very cooperative. The website Compare and Recycle, which lists dozens of mobile phone recyclers (along with recyclers of digital cameras, laptops, mp3 players and several other electronic items), ensures that that their companies use best practice when recycling mobile phones - or anything else for that matter. Reusing and properly disposing of phones and their parts are what the companies on Compare and Recycle’s website make sure to do in an eco-friendly manner.
All of the companies that sign up for the TUFF agreement also help increase consumer confidence with those sites, and the whole mobile phone recycling market. So, if you want to recycle mobile phones, now you know how to choose the recycling company wisely!

The IPhone 4 - Information & Advice
Another chapter was recently added to the iPhone phenomenon, with the launch of Apple’s latest version, the iPhone 4. With a fresh look and a host of new and improved features designed to appeal to customers who have managed to resist the iPhone’s temptation so far, is Apple’s claim that the iPhone 4 is another leap forward, and the best iPhone yet, just marketing spin?
If you already have a 3GS, the first thing you’re going to notice about the iPhone 4 is that it looks very different; and those who were never a fan of the 3GS’s rounded pebble back, are going to find the iPhone 4’s new sleek, flat look hard to resist. The promise of more technology and features from this much thinner iPhone might seem hard to believe, but the extra camera and LED flash give you a reassuring glimpse of what’s in store.
Switch the iPhone 4 on and you can’t help but notice the impressive new screen. Thanks to twice as many pixels as before, icons, photos, email text and webpages appear much clearer. The improvement in the display isn’t just limited to still images either. High resolution videos look much better, and the screen easily copes with bright sunlight and being viewed form different angles.
Manufacturers like Sony Ericsson, LG and Samsung have won an army of fans by providing up to 12 megapixels in their camera phones, and this is traditionally an area that the iPhone has struggled with. The new iPhone 4 however, levels the playing field, and while it’s new 5 megapixel camera might not sound that impressive, the improved light sensing and image handling mean that those wanting high quality photos and video from their phone, won’t be disappointed. A flash for the main camera and video calling via the smaller second camera, complete the improvements.
You also get a new Operating System with the iPhone 4, iOS4, which has some impressive new features compared to the old 3GS operating system. For a start, the capacity of your homescreens is increased with the addition of folders for all the similar icons you want to keep together. But probably the biggest attraction of iOS4 is the true multitasking it offers. It takes a bit to get used to, but once you do, you can now keep several apps open at the same time, and quickly and easily switch between them.
The media might have been quick to point out some of the initial flaws with the new iPhone 4, but this shouldn’t be allowed to overshadow the impressive improvements Apple have made to how their new iPhone looks and functions. New iPhone users will love the iPhone 4, and the only frustration for those who have a 3GS might be the length of time they have to wait before they can upgrade.

The LG Optimus GT540 - Information & Advice
LG tested the Android operating system waters with the LG GW620. Criticized by some for entering the game relatively late, they have rectified the situation by producing a quality successor to the GW620. Known to retailers as the LG GT540, it is more popularly known as the Optimus. Keeping development costs down by remaining true to the operations of the 620, LG has presented a user friendly, mid-priced smartphone in the Optimus. A QWERTY keyboard is just one of the features that add value to the Optimus that some of LG’s earlier models did not possess. Some models of smartphones may be slightly smaller, but the Optimus can be easily placed in pocket with dimensions of 109 x 54.5 x 12.7mm. It is not heavy at all, owing to its lightweight, high quality plastic shell. Smoothly contoured edges bestow an attractive appearance upon the handset. A 3-inch resistive touch screen dominates the front of the LG Optimus. Early reports are that although not a capacitive touch screen, it is still quite accurate, leading to far fewer mistakes than one might expect. It maintains HVGA resolution and the TFT display provides more than adequate image quality for a phone that falls in the mid-price range. Images are presented at a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels with 256K colors. Two types of home screens provide variety to the Optimus. One screen is the familiar, staid version seen on other Android-powered device and the other is an LG customized version. The customized home screen can be adapted to feature buttons on the bottom of the screen that allow messaging access at any time. Widgets, folders, and shortcuts can also be placed on this screen. In addition to being able to create anywhere from three to seven home screens, themes can be completely changed on all of them. Battery life is greatly improved on the Optimus from previous LG smartphone models. A 1500mAh lithium-ion battery has been rated at 500 hours of life on standby and has been shown to provide up to 7 hours and 20 minutes of talk time. This is almost unheard of when it comes to smartphones. Of course, the LG Optimus comes packed with miscellaneous features that will please the user who is looking to enhance the smartphone experience. On the Optimus you will find an alarm clock, world clock, voice recorder, personal organizer, a dedicated Youtube plug-in, a PDF viewer, and scads of other handy applications. An entry-level Android phone, the LG Optimus affords ease of use that will not overwhelm new users. These customers will like the ease of use, while the experienced user will find the familiarity useful.
