What To Buy The Wine Connoisseur?
If you don’t know one yourself, you have a friend who knows one…someone who simply loves wine. There is nothing wrong with this of course as it is a very interesting hobby to have, but it does pose a bit of a problem when you are trying to buy them a gift. You want to get them something they will like (which is naturally going to be an something wine gifts related), but they have every wine book, gadget and bottle under the sun. So what is left that you can give to them as a gift?
Wine Key. They may have bottle openers, cork crews and champagne cutters, but chances are they they don’t have a wine key. They are amazing little gadgets that can get a bottle of sparkling wine open quicker than you can say “who’s driving”. They also prevent you taking your eye out with the cork, spewing wine all over the place and wasting any precious liquid.
Cheese Accessories. Any good wine drinker will appreciate a good cheese or two as well. eIt makes a change from buying them strictly wine-related items and there are a whole rang of cheese gifts out there. Aside from actually buying some nice cheeses, you can buy dinnerware such as cheese boards, plates, knives and even cutting wire. Its always a good idea to find out what type of wines your friend likes and then researh which cheeses go best with them. Once you’ve got the right ones you can even give them the book you used to swat up with as well.
Vouchers. It might sound like a lame gift, but vouchers are often a great solution for the friend who you simply cannot buy for. These can be purchased from lots of high street and online retailers and allow the receiver to buy exactly what they want and when they want it.

The Importance of Wine Maps
The number of people who are really into wine is definitely on the increase. It is very easy to get drawn into the world of wine and before people know it, they are full blown wine enthusiasts. They’ve invested in a vintage collection of wine wines, they’ve converted their spare room into a storage cellar, bought a selection of different wine glasses so that they can get the maximum enjoyment of each wine variety, and have all the necessary tableware gadgets for opening and pouring their wine.
A great many wine enthusiasts don’t actually know much about the actual origins and variations in growing condition of the wines they drink and for that they need a wine map. Wine maps have come a long way from the days they were roughly scribbled on a piece of paper and are now researched extensively and updated frequently. The California wine map for example is updated every year due to the complicated layout of the area, especially after Napa Valley was officially recognized as an American Viticultural Area in 1981. This means that there are 108 AVAs in the area, all providing different grape varieties and wine qualities.
You could of course just rely on the information on each bottle or the recommendations of friends when buying a bottle, but the true wine expert should know exactly where the grapes came from and why they taste the way they do. It is even more important if you decide to visit and area of wine production to have a wine map with you as things can get a little confusing if you don’t. Often different terrain overlaps between wine making regions so certain wines can be made up of a combination of different grapes and grape maturing conditions. A wine map will allow you to not only understand the wines better but also identify where the tastes and aromas coming from your wine glasses came from
